Catherine Just (Los Angeles, b. 1968)
Catherine Just is a visual artist and photographer living in Los Angeles. Her fine art explores the unseen and unsaid emotional & psychological terrains of love, loss, and what lives in-between them. Her “Capturing Breath on Film” photography sessions are opportunities to slow down and experience deeper belonging to yourself and an experience of remembering you’re part of the hum that is the pulse of the planet.

With 38 years of sobriety from a meth addiction, her creative path is a parallel journey of healing, shaped by her personal apprenticeship with Miguel Ruiz (Author of the Four Agreements) and a devotion to image-making as transformation. She works mainly with Large Format Film Photography, Polaroid and Alternative Photo Processes.

Catherine’s work has been published on the cover of National Geographic Magazine, inside O Magazine, and has been shown in international exhibitions including Photo London, The Milan Photo Fair, and an annual group exhibition in Paris with Alta Vista Arts Gallery every November. Her signature “Capturing Breath” photo sessions go to Milan, London, Paris, Marrakech, Oaxaca, Mexico City, Rome, Mallorca, Vancouver BC , Los Angeles and more.

She holds a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and is represented by Alta Vista Arts, 3C Gallery and Fabrik Projects Gallery.

She teaches online courses, leads art retreats in France, mentors creatives looking for a deeper experience inside their creative practice and has a podcast “Into the Deep with Catherine Just”. She weaves the Toltec Practices she learned from Miguel Ruiz into everything she does.

Catherine is a single /co-parenting mom to her teenage son Max, who has Down syndrome. Together, they create projects that challenge ableism and reimagine visibility and inclusion.

Catherine launched 2 limited edition books November 2025.
