Blue is a Poem
I buy something new to wear against my skin when a relationship begins. A slip, a bra, a camisole. I believe these intimate garments become witnesses, holding what was said, what was felt, and what never made it into words.
I’m looking for that underlying layer. The subtext. The inner life of a relationship that exists beneath the story we tell about it.
I make the cyanotypes on small squares of thin sun print paper. Each square becomes a fragment of a memory, a feeling, a story, a trace of something I may not have had language for at the time. I piece them together, leaving the seams visible, creating a third place where another version of the relationship can live.
I’m interested in what remains embedded in the threads of these garments long after a relationship has ended or changed.
Each work is titled for the place and the duration of the relationship.
