Deepening

An 8-week mentoring program for photographers ready to stop abandoning themselves and feel confident and safe being fully seen.

You know what you want to make.

You can feel it. The image. The series.
The thing you keep circling but never quite land on.

And somewhere between the feeling and the making, something stops you.

You second-guess. You compare. You decide it is not ready, not good enough, not the right time. You miss the deadline. You do not post. You wait for more confidence before you let yourself be seen.

"What will people think? Will this be too much?
Too vulnerable? Too strange? Too honest?"

What I want you to know is this: the problem is not your technical skill. It is not discipline or clarity or not knowing enough to call yourself a real artist.

The problem is that you do not yet feel safe enough to be fully seen.

And until that changes, the work will keep waiting.

Why I know this

Every time I abandoned myself, my work paid for it.

I know self-abandonment intimately. I lived inside it for years. I made things that were more acceptable than true. I used language that sounded good but did’nt say what I meant. I shaped my work around what might be easier to receive instead of what felt honest to make.

I edited myself before anyone else had the chance. I withheld before I was rejected. I made myself smaller in the name of staying safe.

But safety that costs you your self-expression is not safety. It’s self-abandonment.

Going from the lowest point of my life with an addiction to meth and a belief that I didn’t matter to becoming a globally exhibited and celebrated artist, with work shown in Milan, Paris, London, and New York, featured in National Geographic and Oprah taught me the difference.

This wasn’t an overnight experience. It’s a 38-year devotion to disrupting patterns and limiting beliefs and a curiosity about what would happen if I stay with myself and not give up.

What changed was not my talent. What changed was my relationship to myself.

When you feel safe inside yourself, you stop outsourcing your worth to other people's opinions. You stop abandoning your work every time it’s time to be seen.

That’s what I teach. And that’s what Begin Deepening is built around.

Real creative freedom lives inside real safety

Before we talk about your conceptual voice or your personal narrative, we build something more essential: your felt sense of safety inside yourself.

When you love yourself No Matter F*cking What, you care less about what others think of you. Not because you stop caring about your work, but because your worth is no longer up for debate.

This internal safety is what makes the deepening possible. It is what allows you to make work that tells the truth instead of work that performs.

We get there together using tools that work beneath the surface:

THE FOUNDATION

Each week you receive direct feedback on your work from Catherine. You will also study the conceptual fine art photographers who have shaped her practice, expanding what you believe is possible in your own.

THIS IS FOR YOU IF

  • You’re comfortable using your camera, but your images don’t yet feel like you

  • You have creative ideas but you’re afraid to make the work and even more afraid to show it

  • You’ve been circling the airport and you’re ready to land

  • You want to stop abandoning yourself in your art and in your life

  • You’re done making safe work when you have more to say and you know it

  • You’re done trying to forcing it or planning and avoiding it

  • You’re ready to disrupt your own patterns and uplevel.

WHAT WE WORK ON TOGETHER

"It's not just photography, it's not just personal growth and it's not just spiritual practice. It's everything. The way you share what you know changed me. For the better. Beyond what I ever expected."

-Susan

Catherine Just has 30+ years of
practice as a fine art photographer, visual artist, and teacher. Her work has been exhibited in Milan, Paris, London, and New York, and featured in National Geographic and O Magazine.

Her teaching weaves Toltec wisdom, 38 years of personal growth, spiritual practice and curiosity about life lived without drugs and alcohol, and a deep belief that the most powerful thing a photographer can do is stop abandoning themselves, love themselves no matter f*ing what and be seen.

She works with small groups on purpose. So that each participant gets deeper work that elevates her to the next level with confidence.

This work is not asking you to become someone else.

It’s asking you to stop leaving yourself every time it is time to be seen.

This is a small group for a reason. You’ll be seen here. Your work will be held carefully.
And by the end of 8 weeks, you’ll know in your bones what you are making and why.

The window closes midnight Thursday April 10th.
