Capturing Breath on Film
Return to yourself. Embody your truth. Watch everything shift.
Carrie Anne Moss, in her private residence, Los Angeles
I’m capturing your breath, your heartbeat,
your dreams, wishes and desires on film.
This isn’t just a photo session.
It’s a ritual of returning home - to yourself.
This is an experience designed
to slow you down
so you can remember
what’s always been there.
I use film cameras and Polaroid
because a deepening is felt
in the slow process of creation
and it shows up
in the blur, the soft focus,
the rich texture of the grain.

💫 What to Expect Before & During Your Photo Session
🔹 Once you book your session, we’ll schedule a Zoom call to connect before the shoot.
This is where we:
Go over everything you need to know.
Discuss what to wear (and what to bring).
Answer any questions.
Begin the internal shift toward showing up for yourself.
Offer you a writing prompt to ground into your intention.
Talk through wardrobe options and what feels most like you.
This isn't just prep. It’s the beginning of the experience.
You’re already stepping toward yourself.
🔹 The Session Itself
When we meet in person, we don’t rush into creating photographs together.
We slow down.
We create a sacred space.
You’ll arrive to:
A beautiful setup with tea, snacks you love, your favorite non-alcoholic drinks.
Music you choose, softly filling the space.
No pressure. No rush. No expectation. Just connection. We talk. We settle. We land. I help you get present with some deep breathing into your being, releasing any tension you brought with you. You write out your intentions. You may do a bit of future writing (a practice I guide you through). You’ll begin to feel the shift…the unmistakable moment when your nervous system says, “I’m safe.”
I’ll feel it to.
That’s when we begin.
📸 What This Session Really Is
Everyone feels awkward before a photo session. That’s normal. That’s human. And I know that space intimately. This isn’t about posing. This isn’t about performing. This isn’t even about “getting the perfect shot.” This is about creating a photograph that holds energy. An image that feels like truth. One that you’ll look at later and think - that’s the moment I came home to myself. We create this through presence, not performance. Through slowness. Play. Trust. Ease. It’s like a mini retreat. A visual ritual. A sacred pause.
💥 The Goal is NOT to "Look Good"
The goal is to: Calm your nervous system so your truth can rise and create an image that holds your intention like a vessel.
Disrupt limiting beliefs about who you are and what’s possible.
Help you fall back in love with your life, your body, your self.
Leave you lit up from the inside out.
Just you. As you are. Breathing. Softening. Opening the creative channel - through image, presence, and devotion.
During. your session you will be asked to take some time to write out what it is you’re releasing, what it is you’re calling in and what it is you’re grateful for. You fold that up and place it in your pocket, under my camera or hold it in your hands while I take a portrait of you while you close your eyes and ground deeply into yourself and what you wrote and what your intentions are. I take a photograph with my large format 4x5 camera with a long exposure, over 5 seconds long depending on the light in the room. This captures your breath, your heartbeat, your dreams, wishes and desires on film. You mark this moment with that photo and all of the others throughout your session. Some will be long exposures and out of focus capturing the energy of you. Other images will be sharp focus capturing your radiance.

my 4x5 camera on the “book pod” in Seattle
my 4x5 and “bookpod” in Vancouver, BC
When we do the long exposure I set my 4x5 on a stack of books that are important to you and to the space we’re in. YES, the camera moves when I take the photograph. That’s part of the charm of this process. The camera, the temperature in the room, the sunlight, the energy inside that space including my own are all part of this process adding their own point of view to this treasured image.

Marking a Moment that Matters
This isn’t about being “ready”. It’s about honoring this sacred moment in your life.
A decision to see yourself more clearly…during the turning point, the grief, the joy, the anticipation of the next chapter, the inner yes.
“Since I was aware I had a body I have hated and hidden my body. I’ve been on a journey to reclaim it. This was about the right to exist and be seen. This isn’t just about beautiful photos, though it is: it’s about seeing your own power and being in your body and claiming your space in this world. It’s worth every penny and more.”

“To be frank? There are no words that truly do the magic of Catherine’s work justice. To say she sees people in all their beauty is like saying the moon moves the sea. Catherine’s work is transcendent. She’s an artist. Not a portrait photographer. Her mission is to see your essence, and to capture it in all of it’s beauty. For two years I’ve trusted her with my voice and my soul in her lens, and those two years have turned my business into the one I see today. She sees me, and in seeing me, I see myself. All of me. All of the potential, the joy, the movement, the raw energy. She’s a soul alchemist. Her medium is photography. Hire her. You will not be disappointed. - M.”
“So here is a wee secret.
I loathe getting my picture taken. I also have to put myself “out there” a LOT in my businesses. Pretty much more with every passing month. So a lot of the time this has meant taking iPhone photos in my house, taking 100 and selecting 2, editing the living hell out of them and calling them my professional photos.
I am crazy uncomfortable in front of cameras, or...I was. This week Catherine Just and I were both in Cabo at the same time. Catherine is far beyond talented. So I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity, weird phobia or no. But her special sauce goes beyond the lens. She has a unique ability to make her subjects feel seen, and loved. Safe.
I gave Catherine just over 30 minutes and she gave me magic.
Thank you Catherine, you are SO.INCREDIBLE.
I mean, have you met you? ”
Kim Sevy : Bowery Hotel : NYC
“You have a magic that makes the images so beautiful. You really do have a gift and it makes people so open, so true, so themselves. It’s a spiritual experience. It’s a sacred ritual. I’m honored to have had this photo session with you. ”
“Catherine is a master. We met yesterday for one of her luxe photo sessions and it was a day of laughter, friendship, kindness and photography. We have known each other for close to 13 years. I’ve taken photography courses with her, been on photography retreats with her, hired her to take photos of me at various stages in my life as an artist, creative and human. Yesterday was one of those really special experiences that comes from deep respect and friendship. Thank you Catherine for capturing this moment and being my friend throughout this journey! Love you, appreciate you and will cherish our time together always!!” — Sarah S.
“Catherine sees me. Some of my most transcendent moments have been in front of her camera” — Danielle Laporte
“It was such a pleasure to hang out and be in Catherine's creative energy. Catherine does the photography for a lot of my clients, we've been accidental collaborators for about two years now and it was such a pleasure to meet her in person. Catherine's vision and how she moves through the world, leaves a trail of light in her path.” —Alyssa B.
“This was so different from anything I’ve ever done before. I don’t like having my picture taken and that’s not what this is about. It was about capturing a moment, an intention, a transition, a letting go, a breath. Catherine is a bit of a magician. ”
“Working with Catherine changed my life. You won’t regret it. I’ve never felt so safe and supported. Catherine helped me find my voice and know that I’m worthy of taking up space. ”
“[Our Session] felt like a Spiritual Experience. It felt like a landing inside myself that I’ve never felt before. It was an infusion of self and the intention put into that moment was huge. I have shivers. This experiene forever changed me.” — P.J. D.
I love the slow process of working with film cameras and the instant magic of Polaroid.
Working fast and slow at once allows me to drop into the present moment and listen with my entire being. This work is a ritual of returning to the breath, to stillness, to the poetry of the in-between.
I love investigating what lives inside the moments we cannot see but we can feel deeply. Meet me there.
