The Shape of Joy

I made this piece of art during the pandemic because I needed some joy.

I was here in my house in Laurel Canyon, like everybody else, not really knowing what was going to happen next

So I started making this.

It’s called The Shape of Joy.

I began with three cyanotypes on this beautiful yellow tracing paper, and then worked back into them by hand with colored pencil and gold leaf.

My boyfriend had made a Sri Yantra that we had here in the house - a sacred geometric symbol of masculine and feminine energies coming together.

And I took individual shapes from his piece and turned them into these little stars like little bursts of love embedded in the piece.

I added 2 birds flying in the same direction, the sun and a butterfly coated with gold leaf, a bouquet of flowers.

I was putting everything I wanted to feel at that moment into this one piece:

love, connection, freedom, joy.

I embedded these energies into this piece.

And years later, I still feel a heart expansive, effervescent energy
every time I look at it.

That’s The Shape of Joy.
